Overview
Shelby Campus is a 230-acre area located in the suburbs of eastern Jefferson County at the intersection of Hurstbourne Lane and Shelbyville Road. A 20-acre academic core of the campus will be retained for University purposes with room for expansion of academic facilities. The University's Center for Predictive Medicine will open in the southeast corner of the property on Hurstbourne Lane, and the remaining acreage is designated for research and office buildings.
Shelbyhurst, the preliminary name for this development, is expected to contribute to the Foundation's overall revenue performance, all of which goes to benefit the University.
In 2008, the first phase of infrastructure improvements began at Shelby Campus with the development of a four-lane boulevard through the campus bordered by bike lanes and wide, attractive sidewalks. During this phase, special attention was given to enhancing green space and improving the life of the surrounding community. This green design, combined with the convenience of the new boulevard and throughways, will facilitate driving, walking and biking through the campus.
